Those of us that love to ride know what it’s like to not be able to because of bad weather. It’s like a pilot that loves to fly being grounded. You sit inside your home and pout while looking out of the windows. Although I don’t recommend riding in severe weather, it is possible to ride in bad weather such as a light rain and cold. I have done it plenty of times. However, it must be done in a smart way or you will risk being very miserable or even worse.
Here is what I have learned about riding my bike in bad weather…
– Stay Close To Home
Being close to home is a good idea in case you get uncomfortable in any way such as tired, wet, cold, etc… Being far from home can make your ride very miserable for the trip back. If you want to ride long distances then take circular routes around your home and keep taking laps.
– Have A Contact Ready
Tell someone that you are going to be outside riding in the bad weather and ask if they would be able to come pick you up if needed. This is a good idea for any kind of bike ride that you do.
– Dress Appropriately
Of course you will want to dress for the weather. Waterproof rain gear if it’s raining, warm clothing if it’s cold, etc…
So some bad weather shouldn’t hinder your ability to go for a bike ride if you enjoy cycling as much as I do. Just dress warm/dry and be safe about it.
